A Beijing based company has invented a bus that floats above the traffic. Straddling two lanes, the bus allow cars to drive underneath. The land air bus runs on special tracks placed along the sides of the road.

A Chinese video report refers to the futuristic transport vehicle as bus, which looks more like a very wide train. The company behind the new transport concept says that the main advantage of the system is the reduced air pollution, faster construction (can be completed within a year) while much lower cost (about one fifth) than that of constructing subway train systems. The straddle bus can carry more than 1200 passengers and travel at speeds up to 60km/h.

The electric “lane-straddling bus” was displayed at the 19th China Beijing International High-tech Expo, in Beijing, capital of China, May 19, 2016. At the expo the company showed the straddling bus in a scaled down model setup. The company stated though that a full size straddle bus is in construction and will be tested this summer in a Chinese city in the north of the country.

This is a breakthrough technology that will overcome traffic issues to quite an extent in major Chinese cities. Watch the videos below to see the straddle bus, which looks like straight out of a science fiction movie.
