Suzuki Swift- All Generations

The Swift is a popular subcompact that is being produced by Suzuki since year 2000. However, previously the ‘Swift’ name has also been used to sell Suzuki Cultus in various markets across the globe including Pakistan. The Cultus name was primarily used for the JDM (Japanese Doemstic Market) versions.

The Swift (rebadged Cultus) first appeared in Pakistan in early 1980s. At that time General Motors (GM) announced cooperation with Suzuki Motor Company in the production and marketing of new mini-cars as GM purchased a 5.3% stake in Suzuki. Thus the first generation Cultus (Swift) came into being.

The first generation was locally rebadged as Khyber and was sold between 1991-2000 while the second generation was sold as Cultus in our country by Pak Suzuki from 2000 till 2017 and was eventually replaced by the Celerio hatchback. Interestingly the sedan version of the 2nd generation was sold as Margalla between 1991 and 1998.

Furthermore, the engine range was revised as well, so all units were capable of providing increased mileage, while reducing emissions.

Although the company has launched a couple of new cars in recent times, the Vitara compact SUV, the Ciaz sedan and the Celerio (Cultus) hatchback, the 2nd generation Swift continues to be sold despite hopeless sales figures.
