FAW has officially launched the Blue Ship T340 double cabin pickup truck in China.
The T340 truck is powered by a 2.5 liter JE4D25E turbocharged diesel engine with a max power of 129hp and peak torque of 340Nm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The front-end is heavily inspired from a Ford Explorer. The production of this truck began back in 2011 with FAW-GM collaboration. According to reports, a GM Chevrolet truck, most likely the Colorado, was used to develop the platform for FAW Blue Ship T340.
The Blue Ship T340 pickup truck is available in different configurations including a short axis, long axis, two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options. The short axis version measures 5330mm in length, 1880mm in width and 1825mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3095mm. The long axis version measures 5640mm in length, 1880mm in width and 1825mm in height, while the wheelbase is 3405mm.
For the sake of comparison, the current 8th gen Toyota Hilux Revo that we have here, measures 5335mm in length, 1855mm in width and 1820mm in height with a wheelbase of 3085mm. Which means even the short axis FAW T340, being almost equal in terms of length, is taller and wider than the Hilux Revo, and even has a bigger wheelbase too. However the long axis version of the T340 is huge by any standards.

Price starts at 106,800 yuan (PKR 19.42 lac) for the base short axis 2-wheel drive version, and goes as high as 135,800 yuan (PKR 24.70 lac) for the flagship long axis 4-wheel drive variant.

As far as the safety and convenience features are concerned, there is ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, central locking, keyless entry, a multi-function steering wheel, trip computer, 6-inch infotainment display, power windows, electrically-adjustable side mirrors, tire pressure monitoring system and more.
FAW intends to launch the T340 in export markets also. And as reported by us last year, Chinese media says Pakistan is included in the list of those markets where the Blue Ship T340 pickup will be launched. This does make sense since there is a rising demand of such vehicles in our country, thanks to CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor).

Foton Tunland, JAC T6 and Isuzu DMAX are some of the vehicles that will be launched in Pakistan before the end of this year. So the pickup truck market will also see some healthy competition. The Blue Ship T340 will be able to compete with the above mentioned names in our market if FAW is able to bring one here.
