In the latest round of price revisions made earlier this month, Pak Suzuki along with the price of Cultus VXL AGS, revised the price of Swift variants. With an increase of PKR 30,000 the price of Swift DLX NAV manual is now PKR 15.85 lac while the Swift DLX NAV A/T is available for PKR 17.21 lac.

With the discontinuation of Mehran, the 1300cc Swift is now the oldest hatchback in Pak Suzuki’s lineup. Technically the car is 15 year old now as it was first unveiled at the 2004 Paris Motor Show and was replaced with the newer generation Swift in 2010. This was the year Pak Suzuki introduced the retired Swift generation in Pakistan, which in 2019 has entered its 10th year of production in our country.
Throughout these years, the Pak Suzuki Swift has remained almost entirely unchanged. It did saw a hard time picking up sales initially and the company had to discontinue the (MK-II) Cultus VXL trim to boost the sales of Swift. And even today with a dismal sales average of just around 330 units, the Swift happily sits at the bottom of domestic sales chart for several years in a row. Moreover Pak Suzuki doesn’t seem to be worried at all since it sells the other budget hatchbacks in healthy volumes. Bear in mind these figures are the second worst for a locally assembled Suzuki car (after Liana) in Pakistan.

Elsewhere, the Suzuki Swift is currently in its 4th generation that was officially launched in Japan on the 27th of December 2016 and has already entered its third year of production. Reportedly the 4th gen Swift will likely receive a mid-life refresh (facelift) towards the end of this year.
Swift’s closest competitor being a 1300cc hatchback in Pakistan is FAW V2 which is currently priced at PKR 12.89 lac. With the latest increase in price, the difference between Swift manual and FAW V2 is now PKR 2.96 lac, whereas that with Swift automatic is PKR 4.32 lac which is a lot.

It’s not that the (local assembled) Swift is that a bad car, but it has went past its prime long ago. It was already introduced quite late in Pakistan and since then has remained almost unchanged. For how many more years the 2nd gen Swift will be sold in Pakistan is unknown, however with an ever-increasing price tag which is now breached PKR 1.7 million mark, is it worth spending money on the Swift?
