Toyota has upgraded the 2020 Yaris Ativ sedan in Thailand with better features while making it more fuel efficient to meet the stringent Eco Car-2 regulations.

Under the bonnet, the 1.2-liter petrol four-cylinder engine (3NR-FXE) now has an electrically operated dual variable-valve timing producing 92hp of power and 109Nm of torque. With the new addition of automatic stop/go, the Yaris Ativ is now able to achieve 23.3km/l, no more than 100g/km of CO2 and Euro 5 emission standard. Previously, the Yaris Ativ’s 3NR-FE engine made 86hp and 108Nm that met the Eco Car-1 regulations of 20 km/l, 120g/km and Euro 4. Transmission remains same– that is CVT automatic with Sport mode.
There is an addition of a new GT grade which basically comprises of visual add-ons such as smoked projector headlamps with red ring and LED light guides, side skirts, bumper extensions & rear spoiler in addition to various red embellishments on the exterior as well as interior components including seats, door cards & steering wheel. One new convenience item is the all-round view monitor.
Features include but not limited to projector headlamps with follow-me-home feature, LED DRLs, rain sensing wipers, power/ retract side mirrors with integrated turn signals, leather seats, electrically adjustable driver seat with height adjuster, auto air-conditioning with climate control, anti-trap power windows, 4.2” TFT multi-info display, eco features, smart entry with push button start/ stop, remote key, central locking, 6.7” touchscreen multimedia unit with Bluetooh/ Apple CarPlay, 6 speakers & multi-function steering wheel to name a few.
In terms of safety the 2020 Yaris Ativ in Thailand gets 7 Airbags (front/side/curtain/driver knee), ABS with EBD & BA, Traction Control (TRC), Hill-Start Assist (HSA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Dual Front WIL Seat (Whiplash Injury Lessening), Front 3-point ELR Seatbelts with Reminder & Auto Pull Back, Rear Seatbelts, Engine Immobilizer with Theft Deterrent System (TDS), Tire Pressure & Repair Kit, Reversing Camera with 360o monitoring & Built-in Dash Cam etc.
Toyota hasn’t upgraded the Yaris hatchback since Thailand is about to receive the all new 4th gen TNGA-B Yaris hatchback that made its world debut late last year. The Yaris Ativ sedan which made its debut 3 years ago will likely remain available for a couple of more years at least since the 4th gen Yaris sedan is still in development phase.
