New Cars Expected to Launch in 2020

The Auto Policy 2016-21 which was implemented to attract newcomers and generate competition in the auto sector, has entered its 4th year. Thanks to this policy, plenty of new cars were launched in Pakistan during the last couple of years by newcomers as well as existing players and a few are expected to be introduced this year as well. According to sources, cars that are expected to be launched in 2020 are:

Prince Pearl

Regal Automobiles have already started to assemble the Prince Pearl hatchback in Pakistan. Line off ceremony of the first batch of CKD units was held on the 19th of December while the formal launch of the 800cc hatchback is scheduled to take place on the 1st of February 2020.

Toyota Yaris

Indus Motor Company (IMC) will introduce the Yaris sedan in Pakistan. Earlier it was slated for an end-2019 launch, however with drastic slowdown in auto sector IMC have had a hard time clearing existing Corolla stocks hence the Yaris launch was delayed.

The company has been testing Yaris with 2 different engine capacities, so we might expect the new sedan to be available in 1.3 as well as 1.5 liter engine options. As per recent reports IMC will introduce Yaris sedan in H1, 2020.

Proton Saga

Al-Haj Automotive having teamed up with Malaysian automaker Proton is in process of introducing a range of vehicles in Pakistan. The company will reportedly start operations with its first offering– the 1.3 liter Saga sedan towards mid 2020.

Proton X70

After Saga, the company may consider introducing the X70 SUV which is making waves of success in its home market. Recently, a Malaysian-assembled X70 was also gifted to Prime Minister Imran Khan by his Malaysian counterpart Dr Mahatir Mohammad.

Based on Geely Boyue, the Proton X70 is powered by a 1.8 liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 181 hp of power and 285 Nm of torque. A 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission is standard across the range. Within a year, the Proton X70 was able to grab 5 prestigious automotive awards and has able to secure a full 5-star crash test rating from ASEAN-NCAP.

BAIC D20

Sazgar Engineering Works, the makers of 4-stroke CNG auto rickshaw having acquired Greenfield status is in process of introducing BAIC branded cars in Pakistan. The company is already testing various vehicles including the 1.5 liter D20 hatchback.

BAIC X25

Alongside D20, Sazgar is also testing the X25 crossover which also comes equipped with a 1.5 liter engine. According to reports, the company may introduce these vehicles towards mid 2020.

Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai-Nishat, the slowest newcomer to respond to market needs is in process of introducing vehicles beyond the purchase power of the masses. The company has been testing the Tucson SUV and may introduce the vehicle later this year. As per the initial launch plans of Hyundai, the introduction of Kona subcompact crossover is also on cards, but the launch isn’t confirmed at this stage.

Changan CX70T

Changan had plans to introduce the CX70T SUV towards the end of previous year, but they didn’t. However we can expect the vehicle to launch this year as well. The company has been displaying this SUV ever since it stepped its feet in Pakistan, however there are reports about Changan considering a widened range of vehicles to be introduced in our market as well.
