Proton X70 in Pakistan to Get 1.5L Turbo, 7-Speed DCT

Al-Haj Proton is vigorously testing the X70 SUV as camouflaged test mules can be spotted in various cities across Pakistan. The company having imported multiple units of the X70 SUV intends to launch the vehicle towards the second half of this year.

Although the X70 in Malaysia comes equipped with a 1.8 liter engine, according to information exclusively received by CarSpiritPK, the X70 in Pakistan will have a 1.5 liter turbocharged Direct Injection engine co-developed by Geely & Volvo. This happens to be the same engine that propels the award winning Volvo XC40 as well as the Geely SX11 Binyue crossover.

In terms of performance this 3-cylinder turbo engine produces an impressive 174hp of power and 255Nmof torque. Furthermore the engine will be paired to a 7-speed wet clutch DCT gearbox. This transmission was again co-developed by Geely and Volvo and comes with a shift-by-wire electronic gear lever which can shift gears quickly while improving the fuel economy at the same time. The X70 was previously available with a 6-speed automatic transmission which has been ditched in favor of the more efficient 7-speed DCT.

The downsized yet powerful engine will earn X70 tax benefits while the refined transmission may give it an edge over other similar vehicles available in our market. Further information will be shared as and when available, stay tuned to CarSpiritPK.
