Toyota GR Yaris Does 0-100km/h in 5.3 Seconds

The Toyota GR Yaris is known as a little monster of this era. The 3-door performance version of regular 4th gen Yaris comes equipped with the world’s most powerful three-cylinder engine installed in a road car. The turbocharged 1.6-liter engine is an all-new development which churns out staggering 257 hp and a massive peak torque of 360 Nm transferred to both axles through a 6-speed manual gearbox. However the JDM version is even more powerful at delivering 268hp.

It is also the purest cars out there devoid of any technological gimmickry such as the launch control or paddle shifters. But having such a powerful engine under its hood, a lightweight body and an all-wheel-drive system, the GR Yaris is capable to achieve 0-100km/h sprint in around 5.5 seconds with its top speed electronically capped at 230 km/h.

However manufacturer claims are often considered baffling since the cars are tested on circuits under controlled environment to achieve these numbers but how does the GR Yaris perform in the real world? Mat Watson of Carwow just tested the GR Yaris and was able to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.31 seconds.

For so many years Toyota has always been known for producing efficient, reliable and to-the-purpose cars. You won’t normally expect performance oriented adrenaline rushed vehicles from the Japanese automaker. However last year Toyota announced to change its image and consumer perception by launching a performance version of each of its core models. And with the GR Yaris they have certainly produced a road car with a rallying blood.
