These companies and their overseas principals only want to make the most profit – which is a justified and logical thing from the businessman’s perspective but from the government’s perspective it is an unsustainable practice. If we take a guideline from Ali Khan’s 4-part series here https://carspiritpk.com/are-auto-consumers-of-pakistan-being-given-a-fair-deal/, these foreign companies want to make the most profit so that a large part of these profits can pleasurably be repatriated to their foreign principal. In this way, the forex pressure grows exponentially: first when CKDs spares and CBUs are imported, forex goes out. Then when the car is sold and the profit has been made, the stakeholders %age of the profit is also repatriated, forex goes out again.

Pakistan has been scammed by our most friendly countries. They cannot sell such underpowered featureless unsafe and obsolete vehicles in any other country of the world at such exorbitant prices and extraordinary profit margins. In other places, they have to strive to increase volume. Here they do not need to, the market is imprisoned in their hands and they can earn much more profit per vehicle than any other country of the world, not by virtue of any manufacturing efficiency but by overpricing the heck out of it. Now when I hear sugary words like Pak-Japan friendship, Pak-Korea friendship, Pak-China friendship, Pak-Malaysia friendship, the only emotion I feel is disgust and the image that comes to my mind is that of butchers.
