Today is 06th July 2024.
Hamza, I didn’t post on 03rd July 2024 just giving you an opportunity to come back at the anniversary of your post to deliver a list of vehicles which are Euro 5. Now 4 years have passed, as per your idea of 2 years timeline, now the cars must have been upgraded twice.

This comment had resulted in a follow-up article. Now even that article is 1-year old and no response from the auto industry. Read on here https://carspiritpk.com/two-years-and-still-no-euro-5-cars/#comment-11342 to see the article and its comments for a more holistic + up-to-date view.

Posting this on July 03, 2023.

Hamza, another year is up without Euro 5 cars. What is your argument now? Come out of your sleep and answer … now!

Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, Hino, Haval, Changan, Kia, Hyundai, Dongfeng, SinoTruk, Howo, CNHTC, Sazgar and the myriad other vehicle assemblers are either continuing old lines or have launched new models or new trim levels of their cars … but without Euro 5.

More than 3 years and till now not even motorcycles & rickshaws have been upgraded to Euro 5. Indus can introduce GR-S trim levels with lots of goodies but are paralyzed when it comes to fitting a DPF to their machines.

Atlas’s cars are Euro 4 while Changan Oshan is Euro 6 but other Changan vehicles aren’t even Euro 5. It is a mad circus where everyone is doing their own. These auto-assemblers always claim patriotism yet they don’t care to enable clean air for their customers. They claim environmentalism yet their actions are contrary. These assemblers always want subsidies and protectionist policies from the government yet when the government asks them to clean up what’s coming out of their backside they simply ignore.

Hamza, today is 3rd July 2022 (the date on which I’m posting this comment), exactly 2 years from when this article was published. In which showroom is my Euro5 compliant car parked so I can go there to buy it?
You feigned technical expertise to hide your pollution-apologism. Now come out of your cocoon and tell us why even after the passage of exact 2 years, Euro5 cars aren’t available?

These significant modifications are insignificant because now they don’t need to design develop and research anything at all. Pakistan is always late to the party other countries have long adopted Euro5 and then Euro6 and now Euro7 is coming https://carspiritpk.com/euro-7-and-our-effection-for-euro-2/.
The Euro5 technology already exists, the manufactured spare parts also exist in godowns of the carmaking companies and the local “assemblers” just need to contact their “muazziz principal” for relevant diagrams and then start importing those parts and fitting them to the new vehicles being assembled in their factory. This process is 2 months max from contacting the principal (who already has developed and even broken even and now obsoleted this tech) to finally importing the parts and fitting them to the vehicles. Because this is what they do: import assemble and sell. No R&D, no nothing, only imports.

Making excuses, delaying and milking consumers is their strategy since the start.

Think of the consumer instead of assembler mafia, for once!

Also, strategy must be in place to upgrade 2 and 3 wheelers accordingly.

The transition from Euro 2 to Euro 5 will require significant modifications to the vehicles. No. 1. An upgraded ECU will be needed, as will the entire fuel delivery system. In the same way, all the metering sensors have to be replaced. There is also a difference in the compression ratio of Euro 2 and Euro 5 engines. Different versions of any engine are made according to different fuel grades.

Some of the response is reasonable such as that part about “awaited facility upgrades at few local refineries” and potential mixing in the WOPP.

As noted in the previous article “Pakistan to Officially Adapt Euro-5 Standards from August 2020” dated 24 June 2020 (link also present in above article), Pakistan imports larger part of its fuel however substantial fuel refining also takes place locally. In the comments section of above-mentioned article the gentleman (lady?) shared the concern about non-upgrading of local refineries whereas even the deadline given by OGRA has passed years ago. And also whether there will be mixing of high-quality imported fuel with low-quality local fuel.
So if the readers in carspiritpk can realize the problem then the car manufacturers can easily realize it also that just by importing high-quality fuel does not mean that retail customer will also be able to consistently buy that high-quality fuel across the country.

——

One other aspect is that when they talk about fuel quality, emissions, air quality, air pollution, they only talk about “cars” meanwhile there are hundreds of thousands of motorcycles manufactured every months which are still using non-EFI (carburetor) which results in unburnt fuel which is toxic and noxious in itself. Additionally, too many rickshaws and generators are also being manufactured which do not have any EFI nor catalytic converter.

Are the engines of motorcycles, rickshaws and generators going to be upgraded for Euro 5 or not?
What implications will newer petrol and diesel have for obsolete technology “chonda” engines?

Because model improvement cycle lead time is 2 years. New changes can only be implemented then
