Borgward BX5 SUV Spotted in Lahore

A Borgward BX5 SUV has been spotted on the roads of Lahore. The right hand drive units are said to be imported by a private company, however Sazgar autos– the makers of 4-stroke CNG rickshaws were supposed to introduce the range of vehicles including SUVs by mid 2019 can be the people behind importing these Borgward vehicles.

Borgward the defunct German brand was brought back to life by Beiqi Foton, a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC). This is the second old-school brand resurrected by Chinese automakers, earlier it was Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC) which rescued the defunct British brand MG and brought it back to England in 2011.

The Borgward BX5 comes with a variety of turbocharged engine options including 1.4T, 1.8T and 2.0T mated to 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox options. Measuring 4,490/ 1,877/ 1,675 mm with a wheelbase of 2,685 mm the BX5 is even bigger than Honda HR-V/ Vezel for the sake of comparison.

Sazgar acquired “Category A- Greenfield Investment Status”, under the Auto Policy 2016-21 in March 2018. According to the letter sent to PSX, the vehicles will be sold under the brand name “BAIC”.
