You are right. When you look at the EV policy, you realize, if there is any benefit to be had from it, it will be from cars and SUVs with over 50Kwh of batteries. That has been relegated to the very rich end of the car buying spectrum in Pakistan and an extremely niche market. Thus no one can see any benefit or potential to the EV policy. It was made sure to be D.O.A as soon as it became law. Mission accomplished…

You are very right. I stand corrected. It is also in the benefit of the oil companies. Keep the country dependent on oil. The local assemblers keep the country dependent on ICE cars. Even hybrids are a distant dream thanks to them; and we are stuck in the middle…

Has to be the stupidest thing in our auto policy. So far literally no fruit has been able to bear from this policy. It’s been like a whole year and we have yet to see an EV to get launched that takes benefits of these “incentives”.

His brain works like a monkey’s. Seeking patterns. The second he sees a slightly similar aspect (chrome grilles on both of these cars) he will straight up claim it’s a ditto copy of that vehicle. If you were to crudely paint an orange in yellow and show it to him, he will very confidently say that it’s a lemon. 😐

Every time there’s a post about a Chinese car, expect Khurram to spurt out a completely ridiculous claim right out of his posterior. “Geely Panda is ditto copy of Sozokay Mehrunisa”… 🤦‍♂️

Keep doing this and absolutely no one will ever take you seriously anymore. 😄

Look deeply and the auto assemblers are culprits but the real vested interest seems to be those of the oil importing companies. Even when they stand to profit in both situations: whether the fuel gets burned in an ICE or a power plant.

And there in lies the whole problem.

Even if BYD somehow brings this or the Han EV sedan to Pakistan we will never see such high driving ranges. The battery capacity of the Tang is around 85 to 90 KWH. I believe it is similar for the Han sedan as well. I’m sure you will know the Pakistani EV policy has a stipulation that cars and SUVs etc. will be limited to 50 KWH battery for tax relief. Anything over that will be charged at full tax.

In a county like ours with no EV charging infrastructure to speak of and constant load shedding and power fluctuations, I think you can easily guess as to who wanted this very arbitrary rule, which limits EV range, to be added to the policy. The local assemblers have put their full political power behind the local EV policy to make it as useless to the Pakistani consumer as possible.

😤😔
