Agreed. A bunch of rich kids with even richer parents and a bunch of investors purchase all of the EVs, CUVs and SUVs thrown at them by these “local” companies, shoot up the import bill to the sky, and only then in the very end we as a whole nation have to pay for what they have done, even when we as consumers had absolutely zero hand at any of this.

Here again, we can thank our “poor little” rich people.
When the EV incentives were announced, they made it as difficult as possible for the common man to afford a decent ranged EV, while the rich could afford to buy extremely over priced and over taxed imported EVs. Due to extreme lack of communication between various departments of government, we all remember the Audi EV SUV fiasco and how it caused a massive panic with the then finance adviser. There was a rumor going that over 3000 Audi EV SUVs were imported when the number was actually close to 300.
But long story short, between 300 expensive EVs being imported as play toys by the rich and the auto policy allowing CBU imports to the new companies and no check and balance on how many they actually imported, they caused this; and now we have to pay the price.
Everything is based on their recommendations to the government and when things go south, we take the hit and the cheap used car imports are blamed and more options are taken away from the people.

First they announce huge reliefs (12.5% tax on cars below 1000cc WOW!!!! 10% import tax only on EVS OOOH AHHH!!!) and then, before anyone could do anything about it (lest take benefit of these reliefs) they instantly revert back to the previous tax percentages, effectively reversing and killing off any kind of tax concession, incentive and benefit.

What’s the point of announcing the reliefs then in the first place?? Just say that you’ll stick with the old tax rates and possibly increase it for financial reasons instead of doing this Topi drama… 🙄😒
