To gain the tax benefits offered to hybrids meanwhile offering no meaningful benefits of being a hybrid (to the user, customer or environment). In other words to game the system.

I was just as surprised to learn this. Apparently the Camry’s “hybrid” system is geared towards city start stop driving and not motorway driving. On the motorway the engine tends to rev hard and is a little noisy.

Its official mileage is around 50 MPG or 21.2 KM/Liter.

The Changan UNI-V iDD does 62 KM/Liter. (Granted its a PHEV but still…)

The Camry seems more like a ‘Baraye naam’ hybrid…

What’s the point of investing in that “hybrid” when the biggest benefit you can get from it is just 2 puny miles?

The Plugin hybrid Prius has an EV only range of 42 miles.

FYI… The Toyota Camry hybrid has a battery only range of 2 miles. Yes 2! Shocking! 😱😵

This Changan plugin hybrid will have a battery only range of 100km which is around 60 miles.

Going by the list in the link above the best is the polestar 1 PHEV with 52 mile range. The rest especially the Japs are all in the 40s.

Does that mean the Chinese are now going to give better options in hybrids than the Japs and others?
