Very good point and very true.
We have this unfortunate practice in Pakistan where cars are treated like prize bonds.
But this does not mean that these Chinese brand cars are bad. In countries like Australia, there are many more car brands than in Pakistan. They are exposed to lots more cars than we are in Pakistan because they have a much more open market, if they think these are good and they buy them, that says a lot about their quality.
People there are more demanding. They demand more standards in the vehicles that they buy. It’s will not be the case where they will buy just to experience them and then say ‘Yeah, it was not good’. They have been buying them for a while now and numbers are increasing. That says a lot about the product. Not just in Australia, check their reviews online from places like the UAE (Dubai etc.) People there are also really into these Chinese cars and SUVs and are generally very satisfied.
Coming back to Pakistan. Yes we have that “cars as prize bonds” problem. But these cars will also join that rank when people start to buy them. Look at the Sportage. I remember when it came out, a lot of people were saying it will fail and will have not resale value. In just a few years it has gain quite a market and is keeping its value well.
There in lies the problem. People will only know the value of these new brands when they buy them. But they will have to trust them first to buy them. It is a vicious cycle.
These companies have to really push to establish themselves and provide good parts availability and service. Once they become common enough like the Sportage, People will get them and they too will join the “cars as investment” ranking of the people here as well. But again, That will only happen when people buy.
However, if you do look at the current level of own on these cars. That is already happening to a large extent. But yes, for true used car resale (selling after a few years of use), what I said before holds true.

On the point of the prices; totally agreed. Prices could have been much better. I have pointed this out before that the prices of the SUVs such as the MG HS should have been below 50 lacs. When you see their prices in China, that is totally justified. The Glory 580 pro and the HS are very closely priced in China with very little difference in sales price there. They are both around the 20K USD sales price mark. Yet here in Pakistan the price difference is unfairly huge between the two. Just because one is unknown in Pakistan and the other is banking one it’s British name. Also the taxation on these vehicles will not allow for these cars and SUVs to be affordable. We are stuck from both ends. Companies with unchecked profits and the government with unset and ever changing and increasing taxes.

“People are experiencing them and have deemed them good enough to buy”

This isn’t going in the general direction the conversation is taking, but one difference between Pakistani and Australian car market is that in Australia the vehicles are considered as depreciating assets but in Pakistan they are considered as appreciable assets (that’s why “investment” is used as a term). In Pakistan people don’t buy vehicles to use or enjoy, most people buy for “resale value”, not for enjoying but for selling. It is just another part of life they have on the shelf for sale. Comfort, safety, making a statement, representing your personality, all these are not factors, the only over-burgeoning factor is resale.

If you see Chinese vehicles have been “good enough to buy” in Pakistani market as well but only for those sectors who’ll run them into the ground and not focus on resale, the trucking and busing sector. Another factor is that the Chinese vehicle offerings in Pakistan have been equally priced or in many cases more expensive than Japanese (old or new tech) competition. Which makes it a hard sell because in Australia and Middle East the Chinese and Korean cars are cheaper by a greater margin and thus make a better value proposition.

Great argument!!

However; one huge flaw….

This is Chinese, that was Japanese.

Therefore, all of China’s automobile achievements are absolutely unworthy of mentioning, praising and recognizing, compared to that of SUPERIOR JAPAN. Prepare to have your point thrown completely out of the window, and prepare to see more comments throwing dirt at you, despite the fact that you have clearly explained yourself and your points multiple times!

“You proceeded to compare truth-based marketing with influencer marketing”

You said something like that before when you argued with me that brands like Lexus do not need to give ads on media because they are experienced by the people and their quality is enough to sell them.
I proceeded to show you so many ads for Lexus cars and SUVs and even marketing stunts that Lexus did to promote their products. Facts which you conveniently proceeded to ignore back then and even do so now.
If you say Lexus sold because of people’s reactions to it; Here too, Chinese cars made a very huge impact in the Australian market because of what people saw in them. Growing in sales numbers from a couple of thousand units a year in 2016 to over 60 thousand a year by 2021. Going from 22nd position in sales to 4th in just five years. That is a huge positive response.
People are experiencing them and have deemed them good enough to buy in such huge numbers. Don’t you think that falls under your definition of “truth-based” marketing with a huge positive response by the vehicle buying public?

Khurram, why did you respond to TrongNguyen’s post https://carspiritpk.com/china-now-ranks-4th-for-sales-by-country-of-origin-in-australia/#comment-7456 ?

She didn’t mention your name. How is her post even relevant to you? Where is this indignation coming from? Why did her post trigger you? Why did you assume that you are the one this post is directed at?

Lying and supposing, but what difference does it make?
You said Bolan and Ravi do not have seatbelts
You presumed that if a man earning PKR 100,000 saves entire amount, he would be able to buy a car in an even higher period than if he saves some amount. As though a man of this income is concerned with car.
You proceeded to compare truth-based marketing with influencer marketing
You do not know what makes miles and kilometers for a car
you presumed that 1.3L Corolla is dying prematurely and also supposed this for 1.2L City
Now you have started to impose tohmat onto people. you also supported not a robot when he said about my doing with xli tail pipe
I guess you have become a really stupid and shameless clown now.
