Hyundai is making very good Electric Vehicles at good prices and plans to dominate by releasing tons of models at all the price ranges. Of course there is also Tesla but they are in luxury segment.

What do they think will happen?

These types of “sanctions” or taxes work when you know the other party don’t have options. China has nothing but options!. Every one from Russia to Africa to countries in south America want their products. If Europe/US/UK/Japan don’t want them, China can easily move on to other areas. The only true losers here are these “open markets” (such as the US or Europe or UK or Japan). They actually have very limited and closed markets, only supporting players that are “pre-approved” and playing by their rules. By protecting their own flailing companies they are the ones who will be left behind, with the so called “third world” easily overtaking them.

Europe already got a taste of it when as a member of the Western Bloc they were prohibited from using cheap oil from Russia while China and India enjoyed low prices. Now the only thing that will happen is that European nations will be forbidden cheap smokeless pollution-free EVs by the very representatives that the people elected to power, while in China practically every other car on the street has a green number plate.

On the one hand European nations wax lyrical about capitalism, on the other hand they don’t let the “invisible hand of the free market” root out their own inefficient carmakers and let in the more efficient Chinese carmakers.

In fact, the protectionist culture of these governments is the same as the protectionist culture of Japs companies in Pakistani automotive scene. It is clear that European car companies are producing obsolete featureless (compared to Chinese brands) unsafe fuel-guzzling uneconomical cars at exorbitant prices.
