Erdogan Receives Turkey’s First Domestically Made Togg Automobile

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey’s president, has formally taken ownership of the country’s first locally built electric automobile– the C-segment T10X SUV.

The ceremony was held at the Presidential Complex in Ankara where the president, who was joined by first lady Emine Erdogan, received the T10X SUV painted in “Anadolu,” which is defined as the red color that embodies the friendliness and passion of the Anatolian lands.

Commenting at the ceremony, Erdogan said:

“Today, we are witnessing together the realization of the 60-year dream of our nation. Togg was born as a symbol of the technological development, economic development and global reputation of our country. Starting today, we will start seeing Togg on the roads.”

According to Erdogan, the second vehicle delivered on Monday will be used as an official car. It will be painted in “Gemlik” color, named after the blue waters of the district that houses the Togg’s campus, shaded by olive trees. Togg, inspired by the country’s fascinating natural beauty, named the exterior colors of the car after Turkish regions – “Anadolu” (Anatolia), “Gemlik,” “Oltu,” “Kula,” “Kapadokya” (Capadoccia) and “Pamukkale,” in Istanbul, Turkey.

Having received over 100,000 pre-orders within just 7 days, the demand for T10X had been so high that the automaker had to increase the allocated number of units for the first batch, as it will now be delivering 20,000 units, up from the initially planned 12,000. According to reports, in just 21 days, more than 177,400 customers placed preorders for the T10X electric SUV, the deliveries of which are anticipated to begin soon. The next delivery will go to Erdoan’s counterpart in Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

When Erdogan first revealed Togg’s prototypes in December 2019, he offered to put his name on a possible list for advance orders. The president has long wished to realize a long-held ambition: to build Türkiye’s first national automobile. He has long urged industrialists to produce a homegrown car as part of his aim of transforming Turkey into an economic powerhouse. Erdogan added he was expecting to see the Togg cars worldwide, not just in Turkey.
