Mitsubishi had started shipping customer delivery units of the Xpander MPV to the Philippines last month. The Expaner’s first batch has reached its destination, the company announced yesterday. The Mitsubishi Xpander was launched in Indonesia last year, with Philippines being its second market.
After Indonesia and Philippines, the Mitsubishi Xpander will reach Vietnam and Thailand followed by other Asian markets. For now, its production only takes place at the Bekasi plant in Indonesia.
The Xpander measures 4,475 mm in length, 1,750 mm in width and 1,700 mm in height. It has a 2,775 mm wheelbase and a 200 mm/205 mm ground clearance. Folding both the second- and third-row seats of the three-row MPV gives a maximum cargo capacity of 1,630 liters.
Like in Indonesia, the Mitsubishi Xpander is available with a 1.5 liter 4A91 MIVEC petrol engine in the Philippines. The naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 105 PS at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm with 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic as the transmission choices.
The Mitsubishi Xpander has quickly become an extremely popular vehicle with its SUV-inspired styling. Two-tier headlamps, chrome front grille with a clear smoke coating, 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels and L-shaped LED tail lamps are some of its main exterior features.
Inside, the 7-seat MPV is equipped with a 2-DIN 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation, cruise control, 12-volt power outlets for passengers in all three rows, roof-mounted rear AC vents and a number of other convenience features.
Safety features include dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, Active Stability Control (ASC), Traction Control (TRC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA).
The Xpander quickly became the highest selling MPV in Indonesia. The Xpander has also won the 2018 Indonesian Car of the Year Award as well as scored an impressive 4-stars in ASEAN NCAP crash tests. It competes against the likes of Honda BR-V, Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Avanza.
According to Mitsubishi’s parent Nissan’s plans, the Xpander from 2019 will be badge-engineered to be sold under Nissan brand in markets where Nissan has better presence than Mitsubishi.
