Great Wall Motors (GWM) has unveiled the new H-Dog PHEV at Guangzhou Auto Show, a new SUV for the Chinese car market positioned under its Haval sub-brand. The SUV was first launched in 2020 with Dàgǒu (Chinese name), which means “Big Dog.” According to information, the name was chosen by the Chinese public in a poll written out by Haval. The company already has other versions called X-Dog, Cool Dog, etc whereas the Big Dog is sold as Haval Dargo in export markets.
The Haval H-Dog is available in both gasoline and PHEV versions and is aimed at the younger set of buyers in China. According to Chinese media, the vehicle is also expected to be renamed from H-Dog to “Hound Dog”, “Thunder Dog”, or “Lightning Dog” before its formal launch.

Apart from minor design differences, the overall styling and profile remain identical to the previously launched Dog-branded SUVs. The fascia adorns a polygonal grille with ‘HAVAL’ lettering in the center against a blue slab for PHEV and a conventional one for the ICE version. The tail lights get a different treatment with a roundish combination lamp having a dashed top.
