There is a gap all the way in-between because of the import embargo which was supposed to help the “local assemblers”.

Some samples of the 3rd generation Accord (1985-1988) were also present and the unique thing was that most were in white or black colour. There are a couple threads on PakWheels forums where people lovingly restored this generation of Accord. A few of the 5th generation (1993-1996) were also present and later on the 1st generation Honda City (pre-facelift) was so surprisingly similar – sp. the taillights – that many people confused between the 2. There was one in white colour in our neighbourhood, later on another neighbour got a golden coloured pre-facelift City (which was always driven by 2 ladies, so the moniker “lady driven” could be rightfully used in the ad if/when they sold it).

Parallel to the CL7/CL9, a few of the North American 7th generation Accords were also seen on the roads. (I know it because one of my teachers also had one). But it never enjoyed the fan-following that the 7th generation Euro/JDM got.
I also don’t know how the NA-spec specimens were RHD, but I’ve never seen an LHD sample in Pakistan. The NA-spec 7th generations Accords were usually in silver colour, compared to navy blue which seemed to be so popular in CL7/CL9.

Technology-wise, both of them had unique points and both of them had lackings. A quick example: The CL7/CL9 had HID projector headlight but plain tungsten filament bulb tail lights and brake lights. The NA-model had conventional halogen-reflector headlights but LED-matrix taillights, giving a faster brake-light response as well as lower power consumption.

Also, the Accord CL7/9 had greater ground clearance than some locally available PKDM sedans but better road grip and handling. A win-win situation.

To some extent, the popularity of CL7/9 was one of the reasons Atlas began to offer even more equipped Civic. Civic was already more equipped with features than other locally assembled sedans, but competing with JDM imports was and is an uphill task for local assemblers.
