Honda City Facelift in the Works

Honda launched the 7th generation City sedan in Thailand back in November 2019. The hatchback version joined the lineup a year later in November 2020.

Now after 3 years, Honda is preparing the 7th gen City facelift which will arrive during the first quarter of 2023, according to Thai motoring media. The City has been the bestselling car in its segment in Thailand but recently has been facing stiff competition from the newly launched Toyota Yaris Ativ.

As seen in the spy image of the camouflaged test mule, the new Honda City will get a redesigned bumper & revised grille up front, whereas the rear end is also expected to get a reworked bumper & spoiler. The LED light signatures are also expected to get some minor changes. The facelift will also receive some equipment & safety enhancements.

The engine options will likely remain unchanged. In Thailand, the City comes powered by 1.0L (988cc) three-cylinder engine good for 122hp and 173Nm paired to a CVT gearbox. This setup is specifically there to comply with Thailand’s Eco Car II regulations. The other engine is a 1.5L hybrid which is offered in the flagship e:HEV RS variant. It gets Honda’s latest Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system making use of 107hp /253 Nm electric motor that drives the wheels, and is assisted by a 1.5L engine that develops 98 hp and 127 Nm with an integrated electric motor acting as a generator and a starter.

The City facelift will help Honda win back the bestselling spot in the B-segment of Thai market. Keep in mind the newly launched Toyota Yaris Ativ since August 2022 has become the highest-selling car in Thailand as far as monthly sales are concerned.
