The saga of feature-stripping and offering half-loaded or even unloaded trim levels continues. Taking a cue from Kia Sportage Alpha flavorless variant, now Hyundai has also launched Tucson GLS which will be a basic variant below the existing lowest trim GLS Sport.

Tucson GLS was anticipated from April:

Thank you for your kind reply. It is as i feared. no relief for the people. I hope they do get the government to extend the policy by two or three years. I also hope that the government learns a lesson from friendly nations such as Malaysia and Turkey and implements some tax relief programs for the consumers to jump start the industry. Otherwise this industry is on its last legs.

you have a valid point to fear about 🙂 We are already in the last year of policy and basically these companies took an awfully long time to launch products due to various reasons. According to my info, newcomers are lobbying to extend the policy for at least 2 more years, if that’s approved things might take an interesting turn

First of all, yes this SUV is a good addition to the local car lineup. These new companies are bringing much needed change and innovation to the local auto scene.

However i have a question that i hope you might be able to clear up for me. These companies have all entered the market under the 2016 auto policy. That means they currently enjoy some tax incentives and tax breaks. Do these tax incentives have an effect on the car pricing? These vehicles have entered the market at a competitive price but is it safe to assume that, come next year, when the 2016 policy will end, will that mean the end of the incentives for these new companies? if so won’t that mean that the prices of these cars might also be revised substantially upwards?

That would mean we are back to square one. These same SUVs and cars will end up costing much more. Is that an accurate assumption or will the prices for these cars remain at the current levels?

Thanks.
