You are right. mostly it is the mindset of the auto assemblers in the country. It will require a shift of the false cultural values that have come about in our nation because of the practices of this oligopoly in the auto industry.
For example; Praising and accepting being sold a 10 year old corolla as new just because “it is a good car”. The new model is a corolla as well. it will be just as good and most probably better than what we have now. Why are we forced to settle for less? Same for Yaris, City BR-V, Elantra, Sprotage, Tucson etc.

Safety and quality standards are non existent in Pakistan. But every one is taught and force fed the notion that resale is all that matters. Even these companies push it by saying their cars have the best resale value. Safety standards that would save lives are pushed aside for getting the people to care for less important things.

The old three had three decades to localize, the only thing they achieved was to even get rid of the deletion policy and make importing their parts much easier. When they say 50% localization, they are talking about number of parts and not the cost/value of those parts. Majority of the cost of the vehicle still is imported. But, with the current tariff based system, which they promoted and forced the government to adopt, they are happy spending the very little dollar reserves that Pakistan has, abroad. The new companies are all following that flawed example and the government is not forcing any of them to localize.

For years, people have been forced to pay own on cars and wait months or even up to a year to get their cars. This artificial supply gap/shortage was turned a blind eye to by these very companies. They supported these scalpers in the market because they helped drive “desperate” demand for their vehicles. Toyota IMC has long maintained that they have assembly capacity of around 75-80 Thousand vehicles. Yet the highest they have even achieved, by their own admission, was around 65 thousand. What about the other 15 thousand? if demand is so high in the market, and you can see that because of the long waiting times you quoted to your customers, why not increase production to meet that demand? Instead people were forced to believe that getting cars meant long waiting times or if they wanted one, paying own was the only way. even the companies did not make any effort to get rid of the scalpers.
And I can bet you a million dollars that the minute things improve and go back to the way they were, own culture will return over night.

So yes. The toxic culture values forced upon the masses have to change. People have to realize and anybody in the government, who still has the decency to care, has to realize that things need to change.

Also, Japani is not the only way to go anymore. There are option and options are always good! Something else that this toxic culture had made the people of Pakistan forget.
