Firstly our policy makers are incapable of such clear thinking. Secondly looking at the condition of the auto market in Pakistan, such policy/investment is not possible here.

However,
“Furthermore, companies will be given a period of three years to set up local manufacturing facilities for electric vehicles and must ensure that at least 25% of the components are sourced from India by the third year, increasing to 50% by the fifth year.”

This is the one aspect of this EV policy from India that would have worked wonders if implemented/enforced in Pakistan’s auto policies in general. This one condition would have helped a lot of localisation to take place in the local auto sector. As it stands, the two auto policies so far have achieved almost no substantial levels of localisation at all.

This is tailor made for Tesla but companies like JLR, MG, VinFast should also benefit from it.

Chinese companies have different hurdles for investment in India, MG India had to sell half of their company to Jindal and BYD was denied investment/factory as they were trying to use a small company to bypass the restrictions on Chinese companies.
