We actually have a more serious problem stopping us from progressing further; mafias. Back in Musharraf era Karachi launched it’s own metro bus line that got quite successful thanks to it’s modern comforts like AC (and the fact that it’s a complete bus that has windows and better cushioned seats in it, unlike the “private” zombie buses you see running in Karachi). The people running those zombie buses actually took note of this and started sending goons to start damaging those buses by throwing rocks at them while they were on the road running so people in those buses can be terrorized into not taking those buses anymore. They even went ahead and started setting fire to those buses too. All that so they can keep their business running without any competition and without any need to upgrade.

The same thing likely happens in our auto industry too. You see a few new companies set foot in Pakistan planning to bring in a good electric car lineup and the next thing you know, the government (with PAMA whispering in it’s ears) makes an EV policy that is absolutely useless and does not cover incentives with any of those EV vehicles from these new companies, while at the same time making better incentives for vehicles under 1000cc (which mostly PAMA sells).

Also not to forget how every time we would hear news about a truck carrying brand new MG vehicles getting tipped over. Why was it that this only happened with MG vehicles on the truck? The rest of our assemblers send their vehicles this way too, however this doesn’t happen that much to them as much as it happened with MG…

Everything our country does, either progressive or degressive, it does it in the dirtiest way possible. There’s always dirty money, mafias and power involved… That is our biggest problem. 😔
