Did you read my full response? Also I am surprised at your question Mr Ali Khan. The reason is, as a sucker of automotive news you should have been aware about car buying patterns. In fact bhai Usman wrote an illuminating article on the phenomenal success of corolla xli and gli. He revealed that both models sold well because it was a bigger car than other small cars. In other words it attracted two different classes of people in one shot. On one hand it held a price to feature cautious people, so, to these people, size was a feature. In the second hand it went well with people already aware about its dimensions being similar to a Civic but not being able to afford a Civic, they went for it as it is a lot cheaper than Civic. Category one of car buyers buy a car that has the highest number of features in a given budget. To them size does not matter. That is why people viewed xli as competition to the city. Now, P.W. wrote an article for this class and that is why they pitched all cars regardless of their sizes. However as analysts they were aware about another class of car buyers, people buying cars because of their actual size. Since the article was intended for former category of car buyers they detracted later category by stating size of stonic. So, if a person ignored this word or was not privy to its meaning then P.W. is not at fault. It is rather like you pointing out to me the use of undocumented in the article through a comment on the article about on money. Why? Because you knew I was at fault and you were right. I believe Mr. Imran is making this same type of mistake. In his comment he is even putting as though P.W. did not even write the vehicle category by its size. That in my view is equal to spreading lies. However, If this small detail does not matter to you Mr. Ali Khan, that is your ethics, i can’t do anything for it, but, I couldn’t just let anyone misstate a fact and let them accuse P.W. of a fault they did not even commit and that too on another forum.
I also can see that you have not said anything about my suggestion about stop using P.W. as a source of information, so here is my question to you. Don’t you find it rude to dish dirt on someone publicly, not hurting you in any way, on another forum, despite using the offender’s source? Is it not just better to stop using the service, instead of mudding their name? I agree that people have a right to complain but discussing it with the Car spirit community is unwarranted, they are not aware about full facts and would just berate the P.W. Therefore, one must confine the complaint to that very forum.
Lastly, for a dent in Corolla sales, well, in my view at-least, yours’s is different. I respect it, anyway, on average the car is still selling over 2,300 units a month and I believe it is the same figure that it even achieved after the introduction of Yaris. So, where exactly is the decline in post-Sportage launch? Is it not now two years on in the market? Moreover, you are failing to recall why people actually buy a Corolla, it is because it is comfortable and durable and cheaper to maintain and until it keeps ticking on those qualities, no other vehicle can beat it. In fact until the launch of 6thgeneration of city Corolla was outselling civic and city combined. Doesn’t this fact reveal to you the kind of love the car holds among its buyers?

Again, same question. Just by acknowledging the B C segment difference, why is it justified for PW to make a comparison and not anyone else?
Also, you must have read the kia celebrating 50000 units on CarSpiritPk. It clearly states kia surpassing Honda in sales.
May we have your opinion on that?
Surely showing such rapid growth in sales must have dented the Corolla sales somewhat?

Yes, unrealistic price expectations were promoted for this SUV at the start. People should have tempered their expectations with the reality of the Pakistani market. People listened to who they thought were experts? Why should they not complain?
Can you please clarify?

Agreed. Good point. 👍

Agreed. Airbags are also quite simple to produce and manufacture nowadays, since the technology has been available internationally for 30+ years now. It’s no rocket science or “hidden gnome” magic, it’s just a sensor connected to the crash/crumple zone, which then sends a signal to a controller which activates a simple gas cartridge, inflating the air bag instantly. If these companies tell us that air bags are absolutely expensive life investments that we as a nation cannot afford to install in our “local” vehicles, it is highly likely that importing them from whatever country they import these from is expensive and they have no intention of manufacturing them, even if it’s cheaper. Plus they’re not required to by any law in Pakistan anyway… 🙄

The initial projections were that this would be around the 2.5 million mark. Please think about that. Was that realistic even back then? No it was not. This is an SUV with a lot of good tech. Even back in the start, to me at least, it felt like this would be over 3 million or close to 3.5. With the current exchange rate, the price is still high but understandable.
Secondly, this SUV might be overpriced but consider this; In that price, this thing come with 6 airbags. SIX!
Our dear old “desi Japani” assemblers have always maintained that airbags are so expensive, giving more than two would increase the price too much. Can they please explain the six airbags in the stonic? In a price that is much lower than their “premium” offerings?
They started this rhetoric of expensive airbags. They maintained this grift to the people and to the government.
Time to rethink their own fib.
Time also for the government to rethink their approach to these companies and to stop taking them at their word.
To be fair, even the new marks, even kia themselves offer only two airbags in the sportage. They must now increase that as well. And the others must follow. Hyundai, MG etc.
To me this, SUV shows the “airbags are too expensive” rhetoric does not hold up too well anymore.

My dear Corolla is a C-segment vehicle and is wider and longer and therefore, has more interior room to offer. Do not make a comparison between two unlikely products please. Moreover, even Sportage has so far failed to dent Corolla sales, how can a much smaller car do that? Anyways, you are free to choose between vehicles but please do not compare cars of different categories.

P.W. were comparing it, however, they were clear about the car category, from the start. They have been saying that it is a B-segment vehicle. If you were not able to connect then I believe you are at fault, so please stop naming the P.W. in your every comment and do some research of your own. By the way, you can just stop visiting their website if you don’t like them. It is extremely ungracious to rely on someone and then name them for your mistakes.

Really worth it.
