All the local jap companies again threw an equally intense tantrum when they did not get any of the incentives meant for the new companies under the 2016 policy. Toyota is still holding the introduction of their TNGA platform and consequently the introduction and assembly of hybrid models, including the current 12th gen corolla, because of more incentives it is (always) demanding. Even increasing their local assembly capacity is an on again/off again affair because of their incessant demands for more government handouts. 🤦‍♂️ They really are shining beacons of what kind of companies to be avoided doing business with. The old jap companies have no priority to make Pakistan an assembled vehicle export hub or a parts export hub. They have plenty of them across the region. The new comers must emphasize on exports because, like the MG GM says, we can really take advantage of our location and get in on the ground level of becoming an export hub for lots of new brands including EVs. And lastly EVs must be prioritized. The EV policy must be revised. Battery prices have come down. That means since the introduction of our flawed EV policy, a lot of new EV sedans and even small hatchback EVs have near 50KWH or higher battery packs. Sedans are now averaging around 70KWH. Our 50KWH battery tax break limit, no doubt put in and recommended by the Jap heavy PAMA, needs to be removed or increased significantly. Also, local EV manufacturing must be made a top priority. If not local sales, EV exports must be given priority. All these local companies are ultimately led by Pakistanis. All the local CEOs are Pakistanis. I wish all of them showed the level headed attuited of the MG CEO and thought of cooperation and taking the industry forwards rather than total domination at all costs even at the cost of the nation... and I'm looking straight at you; our "dear old" three. 😠]]> This is a first for me. A CEO of an Auto assembler who actually makes a lot of honest sense!

Yes, each company should play nice with the others and try to maintain fair competition and a fair share of the market. They should NOT try to undermine each other to the detriment of the industry and the nation.

The local safety and built quality especially with the old three companies leave much to be desired and need to be seriously investigated and if necessary forcibly updated. In India, airbags costs a few thousand rupees increase in the cost of cars (even when converted to PKR we are just talking thousands only). The local three have always maintained that such additions in their local assembled desi jap cars would be costing lacs of PKR! Doesn’t sound right now does it?

No company should rely on government hand outs. Well said by the GM of MG Motors! 👍 Unlike our old three who have always held introducing new models or technology hostage based on this very flawed and ‘badmashi wala’ premise. 👎 Suzuki stopped the sale of the Ciaz just because it threw a tantrum when it was not given special incentives by the government.
