The ZS EV is cheaper and comes with a bigger battery with more range in India. Yet in Pakistan for some inexplicable reason the battery capacity is capped at 50kw for all EVs. Wonder who added that (as if we didn’t know)!
Because of this one forced stipulation, good affordable EVs with very usable driving ranges, from China, become unaffordable for the masses in Pakistan. Even for those who are happily paying exorbitant prices for watered down compact sedans like the civic and the ten year old corolla.
Like hybrids, EVs have also become the unobtainable technology in Pakistan. And people are happily told, and are very willing to believe, that all new technologies like EVs are “nakamyab” (a word I have heard thrown around so many times sadly).
This only goes to show policies are written by the the ones who can pay the most bribes to alter them to their liking. Policies are written for the short sighted robber barons by the policy makers so they can “share in the wealth”. And, hilariously enough, all other concerns (tech transfer, local production, exports, foreign revenue) are inconsequential no matter how good they might be for these robber barons own pockets. Import and sell local. The height of their intellect.
