Very good points all. That is the drawback of the used car market. If you are not careful you will get taken advantage of.
One other type of vehicle that has really taken off in popularity with importers nowadays are flooded vehicles. Those vehicles that have suffered water damage. They are the cheapest to bid on. There too you have to be careful. If it is salt water damaged it is very problematic. But most of the cars that come from Japan have fresh water damage. Japan has a lot of streams/rivers. Especially near towns or farms etc. Usually the damage is from the car going into the water there. But you need to check for it where possible. The auction sites all mention the type of damage (fresh water or sea/salt water) and it is on the auction sheet as well.
These are now becoming very common and our mechanics here are getting good at fixing them up to very good condition. There is a Pakistani YouTube personality who frequently does segments on such vehicles.
You are also right when you say the vehicle might be heavily accident damage repaired and repainted and we need to check for that. For that matter such checks are also recommended regardless if it is local used or imported.
That is the problem with used cars. Regardless of the argument of local or imported, a bad car is a bad car. Be careful!
And yes, you are right the salt air is just part of the problem. I agree with the toxic sewage that does damage cars more. We have the same problem here in our area. One other added “bonus” we must not forget are the donkey carts (very common still in our area) that leave little “gifts” on the roads.๐Ÿคฎ No matter how careful you are, they are a big source in adding to the undercarriage problems of vehicles.

Great comment, I agree with you! JDMs can be sketchy in the used market, specially in Pakistan where honesty is sadly an urban myth, but then… does this mean ALL JDMs have to be completely antagonized because of this?

The reason Khurram has such a bad view towards JDMs is because he himself owned a JDM Alto once and did not have a good experience with it, as said by himself multiple times. It is unfortunate that he had to deal with such issues and problems, and I tried to explain to him that perhaps the previous owner/importer/dealer of this vehicle was sketchy and perhaps he didn’t get himself a legit “well taken care of” model. Of course, that he took it personally, and proceeded to insult me because “I was teaching him how to take care of his own car” and I was allegedly labelling him as stupid by doing so. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ And then ever since then, he has a big problem against anything that is JDM…

Mr. Ali Khan, when will you learn etiquette? Firstly, you suppose, secondly you misread and thirdly, you and your ill-informed friends in the shape of Not a Robot and Truong are now trying to antagonise me again, you are posting almost off topic comment and against one that is not even aimed at you. What kind of decency is this?
Note that try as you might, I am never now going to respond to you three because you guys are an epitome an uneducated person.

P.S. where on earth now is the man who was quick to educate me about decency and mannerism but is now ignoring the actions of these three ill-mannered people? Maybe that is how all the uppity type people operate, cite a physics and off topic comments and then lash out if other party lose control.

What he doesnโ€™t realize refuses to acknowledge

If you can look past bear the bad behaviour of Khurram and take his point objectively reading through the lines, there is at least partial merit to what he says. Used JDMs are orphan imports and just like kabli spare parts they are a hit or miss. If you got a main accident JDM which was then fully restored repainted meter-reversed “converted” into toootaaal jayyniannn gadddi then good luck getting any service out of it except worries and woes. Some of the JDMs have really bad rusting problem and only a little bit forensic will tell the full story that the car was major accident or a fire victim before being imported with a falsified auction sheet (on the sidenote you know that if you buy a “cut” NCP from NCP area with the intention of paying custom and bringing it into the mainland, despite meeting the other requirements, the custom officials will not accept it because it isn’t considered structurally roadworthy anymore) and only those surfaces are catching rust again and again which are lacking the original paint. So JDM is cool if you got a trustworthy piece.
Conversely if you got a good JDM with no paper-tampering, meter-reversing or any of the other ills, you’re life’s going to be heaven-on-earth, type of.

One thing more about rusting: Salty air is only small part of the equation and mostly it is around the windscreen or rear glass later in the life of the car. Many cars in Karachi are rusting from the wheel-arches and floorboards in just a few years and that is mostly because of sewerage water. Nearly all the cities in the entire province of Sindh are literally drowning in overflowing gutter water in all the streets and lanes. It is so gross and najis and there seems to be no permanent solution around.

Exactly. How is that possible?
The Bolan or Ravi according to the gentleman are understandable because their “quality” is based on “truth based or trust based marketing” as he has put it many times; but what about the small JDM car?
I’m sure black magic must be involved.๐Ÿคฃ

Honestly, this is by far the most strangest belief I have seen from a fanboy. Usually they are super defendant of literally anything Toyota/Suzuki/Honda etc. makes and offers, even in Japan and other Asia Pacific countries, but I have never ever seen someone defend Pakistani assembled models and cite it better and higher quality than JDM imports. ๐Ÿ˜•

looking at that man’s intellect & according to his impure beliefs. local Toyotas are good but JDMs which are supposed to be the best Toyotas on earth are bad. 40y old local & stripped Suzuki bolan is good but new fuel efficient Every van is not. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

There is also another import just sitting there and it is even more surprising than any of these Bolans/Ravis or HiAces;

A Toyota Passo ๐Ÿ˜ณ
