Pak Suzuki launched the new generation Swift replacing the decade-old model in February earlier this year. The latest hatchback by Suzuki has now made it to the domestic sales charts for the first time, and that too, in style. According to the data released by PAMA (Pakistan Automobile Manufacturers Association), new Suzuki Swift saw 2,273 units sold in April 2022.
The number is almost 15 times more than the sales of old Swift model which Pak Suzuki used to sell between 2010 and 2022. That Swift which was introduced here in 2010, the same year when it got done from the rest of the world remained seated at the bottom of domestic sales charts with an average monthly sales of hardly 155 units. With such an average, the old Swift would have taken more than a year to witness the same number of units the new Swift sold within its first month of local production.
Just like Alto 660cc, which came in as a replacement of 30-years old Suzuki Mehran, the switch to a newer model Swift seems to have paid off really well for Pak Suzuki. And it once again demonstrates that newer and better up-to-date products will always become successful among the masses while negating the theory of dragging the older & obsolete, thinking no new model can achieve similar results.

Unlike the fuel guzzling M13A units of the old model, the new Suzuki Swift is powered by a fuel efficient K-series 1.2L engine that produces 82hp of power and 113Nm of torque and comes paired to either 5-speed manual or CVT gearbox depending on the variant. The flagship GLX variant of Swift is also the most well-equipped local assembled model ever to be offered by Pak Suzuki in the country. However as predictable as in case of any other car, the price of Swift was revised soon after it was launched in the market.
After the latest increase, with a price tag of PKR 32.98 lac, the Swift GLX CVT falls in the domain of Toyota Yaris GLi 1.3L CVT (PKR 32.49 lac), 1.3L Yaris Ativ CVT (PKR 33.79 lac), Honda City 1.2L CVT (PKR 32.64 lac) and Changan Aslvin 1.5L Lumiere (PKR 33.44 lac). Whether the 1.2L Swift GLX will be able to make its place among the B-segment sedans of our market, we will have to wait to find out. But from the looks of it, the Swift has already started to eat the share of the known names as it sales stands almost as high as the combined number of Civic & City (2,265 units) in April and much higher than that of Yaris, not to mention both Honda and Toyota have been shy to disclose the individual sales numbers of their vehicles.
