The NIO ET7 electric sedan has achieved a full 5-star rating in the latest round of Euro-NCAP crash tests. The latest feather in the cap for Chinese cars scoring full stars in the most stringent European safety assessments comes after ORA Funky Cat & Wey Coffee 01, BYD Atto 3, Lynk & Co 01 & NIO ES8 earned a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
The ET7 scored 91% in the adult occupant category, and 87% in child occupant safety. However it moderately scored 73% in the vulnerable road users category, but scored a highest 95% in the safety assist segment. The overall score was weighted at 9.6 out of 10 points.
NIO makes it clear in its press release that the ET7 earned some of the highest marks possible for safety and efficiency. The automaker’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Danilo Teobaldi shared:
“With all active and safety features as standard, NIO’s ET7 was designed to offer its users, wherever they are in the world, the highest levels of safety. Providing users with peace of mind is crucial for the user experience. From the outset, we wanted to go beyond achieving test results and through our R&D find solutions to go further. If it improves safety, it is worth doing.”
NIO goes on to explain how it makes its electric vehicles as safe as possible through the use of innovative, high-strength materials. The Chinese automaker also puts an emphasis on the structural design of its EV bodies with the use of front and side crash beams and a single-piece reinforced B-pillar.
The NIO ET7 also recently won the internationally coveted Golden Steering Wheel award, winning the ‘Medium and Upper Class’ category. The feat marked the first time a manufacturer won such an award just weeks after its market launch in Germany.
