If the government really cared or had the intellect to understand or care beyond optics or “benefits”, the most obvious and industry saving question to all these thirty year old jap companies is “what were you doing for the last thirty years?”

Vietnam, Turkey, Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana etc., achieved/are achieving in years what these same companies could not achieve in Pakistan in three decades. Those countries are well on their way to expanding local production for exports; parts and fully built cars both. And in the case of Vietnam and Turkey are now fast moving into EV production and export. Not to mention Iran, which despite sanctions, has been producing cars for decades and are now looking to produce local made EVs as well.

At least the government must ensure that these companies do not layoff any workers. Because whatever they say, you can be assured they will find some way to do that. The little guy always suffers. Kuch to kar lo bhai!!!

And the saddest part of all this is, these companies know they cannot continue like this much further. Their profits are declining and they will reach the limit of “raise the price”. They are literally fighting over scraps. If they expand their business into exporting cars or even simply making parts for exports, they stand to really make great profits. Yet here we are. They are content with lying down on the job, fighting the government and stopping any meaningful change and making sure they extend this as much as they can. They are literally destroying their own business and foregoing assured profits (by expanding).

These is a modern myth. If you put a frog in hot water it will jump right back out. But if you put it in cold water and slowly heat it up, it will stay there until it boils to death. However, The reality is, if you put a frog in cold water and heat it up, the frog will eventually jump out when the water becomes uncomfortable. Seems the frog has more sense than these local companies. The water is boiling and these companies are doing everything to make sure they stay in it.
