I fully agree with the last statement, as that would serve as a very important and strategic step to ensure a good healthy auto economy in Pakistan. China could let us handle manufacturing RHD models of their cars and export them to countries like South Africa, Australia, UK, etc.

Very true sir. And India is one of the large export hubs for Suzuki, implementing the latest tech as well such as euro 5 or euro 6 engines. Why would they spend time and capital to bring Pakistan needlessly into the fold. It is redundant and they know it and, by doing so, they would risk pissing off a big manufacturing hub like India.

That is the case with all our local Japan companies. Pakistani exports or local manufacturing capabilities are redundant for them, especially with unlimited parts imports for local assembly.

We need to fully focus on local EV manufacturing and for the time being, setting up our selves as a Chinese RHD vehicles assembly (and hopefully manufacturing) hub for exports (like with Changan).

that’s because most of the models Suzuki has there are supplied from India, so its just a reflection of what Maruti has to offer in India- lightyears ahead of Pakistan

I heard that as well. I believe that it happened with the local assembled Toyota pickup as well. That was exported to Kenya I believe. Maybe some one can come up with more information on that. But it is very simple. The Japani three never paid any attention to exports seriously. It was not important for them. It is still not.

And the failing of Bolan and ravi in Bangladesh is no surprise. Look at the line up of the Suzuki vehicles and motorbikes available there. We are lightyears behind them.

in 2009 just 360 units of Ravi were exported to Bangladesh but not after that, why? because they were “rejected” due to poor quality. it was a very hot topic in those days i remember, but sad i cannot find any link now. nonetheless it was shameful as Bangladesh rejected those due to poor quality

Here is an excerpt: “Pak Suzuki is also exporting Suzuki Ravi pickup, Liana car to Bangladesh and components to Europe and Japan since 1997, thus earning precious foreign exchange for the country. Pak Suzukiís accumulated exports to date totaled USD 12.6 million.” Link: https://www.invest.gov.pk/sites/default/files/2018-03/Pak_Suzuki_Motor_Company_Limited_Success_Story.pdf

Only this time it’s a Chinese assembler we are talking about instead of our dear “Japani” three. His criticism will vary based on origin of manufacturer 😁

They are importing parts, assembling here and then exporting. But that is the positive take away here.

The value addition comes from assembling the vehicle here and exporting it. That helps to offset/cover the costs of just importing parts, assembling, and then only selling locally. There is no international revenue stream that way. You are only spending money and not make money internationally for the country to benefit from. That is the way the japani guys have been doing it. It only increases the burden on the economy. However, assembling it and then selling it abroad bring in profits. You are bringing in parts, adding value by assembling them and selling it abroad at a profit.

So yes, if Changan does this successfully, it will be the first local auto assemblers to truly achieve value addition to the Pakistan economy.

how does that become important to you all of a sudden?? because till a few hours ago importing parts from abroad was HALAAL because Pakistan didn’t have the education level that was required to make a car here? no?
