EXACTLY brother. Reading this was actually painful. Is being incompetent and not having any sort of problem solving skills, other than being good at political drama bazi and tu tu mai mai blame game, a job requirement?

The “we are increasing our production capacity” line, in my humble opinion seems to be missing the main bit…
“we are increasing our production capacity, and to show our “commitment”, free cars for the whole committee” (ALLEGEDLY!)😉.

In other nations, the government dictates and sets the rules these companies have to play by. The rules are set and the companies are expected to operate with in them. Look at all developed countries and even developing ones like morocco, Vietnam etc.

Only in Pakistan do we find our government standing at these companies’ offices (who are themselves the main major culprits in all of this problem) and asking “mujy kam batao main kya karoon main kis ko khaoon ma siva aap ke”

Infuriating!

The government formed committee, instead of looking at the problem objectively and ascertaining the roles of all the companies involved, went straight to the companies who caused the problem in the first place and asked them for their “expert advice”.

This is EXACTLY what I was gonna talk about, but reading the whole article, I thought to myself that this is by far the most stupidest thing I have read so far (no offense to Usman Bhai, great article as always). I got so infuriated at the sheer incompetence of the government that I just gave up and hit the hay.

Think about this; Instead of doing their own bloody research FOR ONCE, they’re asking the same people that caused all this fiasco in the first place for ADVICE. ADVICE!!! I’m sorry, wasn’t this supposed to be a GOVERNMENT?? If you go around asking for advice from these business men (who’ll just make out more ways for their easy money just by fooling them, mind you), what IS your job then??

And WOW!!! Mr. Jamali’s “we are increasing our production capacity”?? How did they take this so easily and went back to their offices?! Where’s the guarantee in that?

This is just…. sigh. I REFUSE to believe this is real. I REFUSE to believe the government is THIS stupid and incompetent. There is SOMETHING going on beneath the tables, no God damn way this is the actual case.

The government formed committee, instead of looking at the problem objectively and ascertaining the roles of all the companies involved, went straight to the companies who caused the problem in the first place and asked them for their “expert advice”.

Do you see the irony here?

Its like the owners of a house, that is being continuously robbed, going and getting advice from the very robbers who robbed them in the first place.

Besides, we are also increasing production capacity to meet the increasing demand.”

WHEN??? This grift is getting old. Jamali Bhai, when will this miraculous production increase ever happen?
Did the government committee ask them to provide full documented proof that they are operating at full capacity even now? do they even know that much at the moment?

The government still has no clear picture of the car prices. When it was MG’s turn they did a bang up job of finding out the truth and getting to the bottom of the issue. They easily found out what price MG Pakistan was buying the cars for from china. Basically what the actual cost of the vehicle was getting it into the country. That also helps in giving a good accurate estimate of how much markup the company is charging apart from the tax portion.

WHY CANT THAT HAPPEN FOR THE LOCAL ASSEMBLERS???

They import parts. You know what that costs. They buy locally from the local parts vendors. You know what that costs. These companies pay taxes on all these part local or imported. You have a pretty good idea of what a car will cost for these companies to assemble locally. You can easily get a good idea of what the company charges as profit. FIND THAT OUT!!!

That will also give you a good idea of how much these companies buy locally and what is being actually made locally. All it takes is some leg work to go to the local parts vendor and get data. That will also tell you if these companies’ claims of 50% or 70% localization holds water.

These guys have the best alibi just to blame the tax portion. If we had a government that was not asleep at the wheel it could have figured out all these simple thing and had a good counter argument pointing to the company’s actual profit margins. The government would not be so clueless and dumbfounded every time.

You were awake in MG’s case. Why not these guys?
