I appreciate your input. But the problem starts when even these 5-8 year old JDM imports start performing better in terms of quality, performance, comfort and overall creature comforts compared to what is usually offered in Pakistan in the form of local assembled.

People will only buy these JDM Imports and barely look what what’s offered locally, and the local assemblers will then threaten to pack up and leave, which the government doesn’t want, for economic reasons.

This will definitely benefit all the stakeholders.i think inshallah in near future we shall see pleasant discount promotions every year from some companies esp in december. Last year there were record breaking promotions introduced from different companies due to covid situation led poor sales, which gave them very positive results. Inshallah the trend will continue even if covid settles.

Which makes it impossible for the local companies to sell something cheaper than 10 lacs, even that most people cannot afford.

It is best for the public that government allows imports, but with a different time-window. Currently only 0-3 years old cars can be imported. They should change the window to 5-8 years old cars. This way newer JDMs won’t find their way here, and those who want to buy a new car will have only one option: to buy locally assembled new. And those who want a car in 6 lacs can get a suitable reconditioned but at least 5 years old (older model) and at most 8 years old used import. Hence there will be 2 entirely segregated market segments.
