I think it is not just enhancements to engine, Toyota Hilux is literally a better off-roader than D-Max, at-least as far as actual users of both vehicles are concerned. Moreover, since people from army and bureaucracy have to visit far flung areas and they have also already used a Toyota Hilux and have gotten better value for money over its life. So why then should they buy D-Max just because it has more features, I mean to them there is no reason for choosing D-Max as the option over what they already have is too good, so why try on something new when old is gold. Besides, in my view, Pakistanis are shrewd car buyers and are also cautious about their status as well as risk to money, a Toyota Hilux sounds, runs and even looks more manly and better and is thus more suitable for people of elite class.
P.S. Just yesterday I got a pleasure of talking to a fine young child from family of rich people, it was pretty clear that inherently rich people have a class that is not found in people becoming rich overnight. While inherently rich spend their money to seek personal pleasure, the other class wants to just show off, I believe only a show-off would buy D-Max otherwise a man buying vehicle to get personal pleasure and who is privy to D-Max’s tendency to breaking down after 75,000 miles would think twice before actually switching away from Toyota Hilux. That is why fleet vehicle buyers still prefer buying Toyota Hilux because while it is not the same as the Hilux from 80s, it still is better than products offered by competition.

Toyota hilux was alrady a sturdy pick up, the enhancement are welcome, isuzu is building among the most reliable diesel engine, but in Pakistan gosoline is cheaper than diesel, It could be interesting if Pakistan could get Honda ridgeline.
