I still agree it’s cheaper than the alto available there. The sky high prices there are due to the political instability and balance of payment crisis because of which inflation has shot through the roof. By finding a permanent solution for these problems, economy will stabilize and things will calm down. I sincerely hope that happens soon!

That’s because those mouth watering starting price variants only exist in paper. If someone tries to book one in a dealership, they’ll give all sort of excuses from absurdly long waiting period, vehicle not allotted, base variants are only made to order and what not. They convince us for the next variant, and boom. It costs 8.4 lacs. Now add 5 years mandatory insurance, registration, road tax, green cess, GST and you’ll be looking at around 11.5 lakhs on road price.

yar how come prices of cars in india are so cheap even with so much high taxes as you say. like, this car from just inr 7.46 lac is even cheaper than our 660cc alto which don’t offer much.

Yes, I have been following the situation over there closely and it has become bad. But, I had to call it out when a manufacturer gets greedy. I have read so many articles in this website about how India is far ahead in manufacturing cars with very high localization and all, but what is the point when those high levels of localization & scale of manufacturing is more than negated by sky-high taxes! Govt is simply run by dumb people. In 2010, it was predicted that Indian market will be selling 6 million cars by 2020. But still dragging its feet to cross 4 million. The less said about the BNVSAP crash test program coming “very soon”, the better!
