I agree brother Waqas, Pakistani exports are based on low technical items and cannot fetch much in foreign reserves. This fact is the reason that the government is imposing abnormally high taxes

Of course, they’re selling to those who always say “Tayota to Tayota hai ustaad” whereas anything that isn’t a Toyota is alien to them… Even a rebadged Toyota like Subaru Sambar, Daihatsu Boon, etc.

Pakistan is exporting few high value items, so to keep the economy in balance, they should put taxes somwhere, but putting taxes is one thing some dealer will add some “extra taxes” to loot the rich.
Anyway it will be good of Toyota assemble the camry locally like Honda with the accord, they would be successful the Hyundai Sonata is a proof.

no bro Toyota isn’t targeting the elites only, their target market is the die-hand fans of good ol’ Toyotas since Camry can go to the moon & back without repairing whereas Sonata will break just 1500m above the sea level.

These CBU import cars (like Camry, Prius, and the ever so “apple of the eye” Land Cruiser) aren’t imported for the general masses, they’re only imported in few numbers for the rich elite who occasionally would want to buy one once in a blue moon, so they keep these prices with ridiculously sky high profit margins to make up for it, because they know these elite will pay that price for it anyway.

These cars are marketed towards that specific demographic only. Only Hyundai Nishat is playing smart by pricing their CKD offering much lower so that those who don’t want to pay two house’s worth of money for a simple family sedan can easily afford one.
