After having made its global debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2019, the GR Supra A90 has finally been launched in the US, marking the first time a new Supra has been sold in the country in 21 years.
For the US market, the resurrected sports car is available in two trim levels– the 3.0 and 3.0 Premium, as well as an exclusive Launch Edition that is based on the 3.0 Premium. The downsized 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine hasn’t made it to the US market, as all versions are powered by a 3.0 liter turbocharged straight-six engine. The engine is good for 335 hp from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm and 495 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 4,500 rpm, with an 8-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels.
As for performance, it takes 4.1 seconds for the new Supra to do 0-100km/h, while the top speed is electronically capped at 249 km/h. Toyota claims a combined fuel consumption of 11 km per liter for all trim levels, which come equipped with 19-inch forged aluminum alloy wheels and mixed Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (255/35 front and 275/35 rear) as standard.
All trims get 8 airbags, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist and automatic high beam, with the option of a Driver Assist Package that includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert and parking sonar.
Price for the A90 Supra starts at $49,990 for the 3.0 whereas the 3.0 Premium is priced at $53,990. The Launch Edition is the most expensive at $55,250, but it will be limited to 1,500 units only.
