True only to some extent. Like Ali Khan mentioned below, conversion kits can be one way to go for existing, pre-owned vehicles. This will also fall in line with the 4R’s concept of environmental science: Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle.

However, re-releasing 40 years old models with new power trains as a zero-meter from factory will never work as a strategy. These cars are by default heavier, smaller interiors and bigger exteriors (less efficient utilization of space), less comfortable rides and poor crash safety compared to any modern design.

Please tell me why for decades they were OK with internal combustion engines being the only options. Now they suddenly remember to diversify?!

2 – Converting existing cars to electric or any other type of fuel is not a new idea. Locally CNG conversions are popular. However, any sort of conversion means adding extra material to support new parts. If you convert old cars to electric or hydrogen etc.; if you do it at a local shop, they will just fill the boot or the engine bay with the batteries or other bits. If these companies have to do it, they will need to meet certain standards. That would mean extensive modification of a chassis that was NOT made for electric or hydrogen etc. That would add extra un-necessary weight and complexity. That is the main issue the old car manufacturers are facing. EVs or even hydrogen would require completely new manufacturing and assembly lines. That is why this hydrogen gimmick that Toyota is always showing off is just that; only a gimmick. Doing all this, even simple conversion kits installation, is much harder for these companies.

3 – This is simple enough. We know that even in Pakistan, local shops offer electric conversions. In their markets, they have even more experienced professionals offering these conversion services. So the practice is already established. Why is Toyota just talking about it. Why is it not offering it already? Or will this be just another thing Toyota is saying that will forever be stuck at the “planning” stage? Like I said in the pervious point, it knows the complexity of the situation and is just messing with its fanboys’ minds at this point. At least offer the conversion kits to them. At least do that much instead of just “planning” and “prototyping”.

4 – If Toyota itself believed the BS they or rather their CEO is constantly spewing, it would have already marketed some of the things they have demonstrated such as the hydrogen internal combustion engine or the hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (proper line up of Fuel cell vehicles; not just the show-piece Mirai) or even these simple conversion kits for old cars rather than just showing an ever growing line of “concepts”.

5 – So Toyota’s answer to its problem is جگاڑ (Jugaar)…

This guy is getting seriously sad and pathetic at this point.

Instead of procuring more materials and releasing more emissions. This may sound all good in theory, however some companies exist which does electrification of older cars. Let’s see how this unfolds.
