In general an ICE car running on ethanol is half the price of an EV and Brazil being a developing country, not many can afford the EV which is one of the reasons of slow EV uptake. Ethanol is much cheaper than petrol so the running cost is also much lower. Environmentally, ethanol is more carbon neutral than fossil fuels due to its organic background – it is a crop anyway.

In spite of all that, all members of the troika have begun lobbying against EVs.

Good point. As EVs get more common. Battery replacements will be just a normal thing. The batteries used in EVs are much more durable but they can be changed when required.
Look back a decade ago. Talking about cars, we used to say things like avoid buying hybrids like Prius because replacing the battery if it goes bad is a hassle and very expensive and not many could do it at the time. Fast forward to now, we have official battery refurbish kits available in the markets. People can actually do it at home or have it done at a mechanic in a few hours.
In the US, people successfully repaired even their Tesla batteries.
And you are right, it might even come down to it that in a few decades when EVs are common, we might just be buying battery packs for it like we do batteries for our ice cars now. Go to the shop and chose the brand you like.
However keeping in mind the long life of the batteries, it will be a long time between battery replacements. 👍

Re: the battery failures: every car has a battery (talking about the conventional ICE ones) and does fail ever so often .. .. . what to do then? Just go and buy a new one.
Whether the most reliable/durable car/truck/bus or the least, you only get to choose the normal Exide, Osaka, AGS, etc. etc. lead-acid batteries available in the market.

None of these kind of replies to Khurram are actually for his reading. It’s for others so that they are never to be as mistaken as Khurram is. 😉

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-out_of_fossil_fuel_vehicles#:~:text=Introduced%20by%20US%20President%20Joe,engine%20powered%20vehicles%20by%202035.

The phase out by 2030-2035 is for Fossil fuel vehicles only. It does not mean hybrids. By those dates vehicles powered by fossil fuels only will be phased out. I hope you follow.

https://www.carbuyer.co.uk/car-ownership/303931/what-is-the-euro-7-emissions-standard?amp

The new euro 7 emission standards currently being worked on is the final iteration of the euro emission standards and the toughest. It would mean very stringent emissions criteria for vehicles. It might also be the case that only hybrids can meet the standard.
That is why Honda and other manufacturers especially from Japan are so hell bent on going hybrid. In places with emission check and balances they will not be able to sell anything else.

China had been selling hybrids for decades. You have been told many times, it was BYD from China that not only started the plugin hybrid vehicles commercialization, it also did the blue hybrid logo before Toyota did. So these guys have been in the hybrid game and innovating for quite some time. MG HS hybrid, Haval H6 hybrid, even the DFSK Glory 580 hybrid. Hybrids in China are very common.

How can you claim the Europeans will face issues with battery tech and their electric power grid because of EVs. Norway was the first country to achieve 80 percent sales of EV only by Jan 2022. The Norway government claims almost full 100 percent EV only sales in the country by 2025. They have been at it for years. They have never complained if any power issues. Others are quickly following. No power issues yet…

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OJtzuZIO-88

You keep on claiming battery failures. Yet the average battery life span is 10 to 17 years or over 200,000 miles, which is well over 300,000 KM!

BYD claims even higher life spans for their blade batteries, fast becoming very popular, not just in China, but with Europeans and america EV manufactures as well.

As a matter of fact, countries like the U.K. and even Finland and Netherlands are soon going to be singing a different tune after they have to deal with electricity blackouts and dead E.V. batteries. Anyways, there is a reason that shrewd and corrupt Chinese automakers have also now started offering hybrids, I believe that they are seeing the strategy as profitable and even Honda despite its stance has expanded its hybrid models.

A leader in cleanER cars but not in CLEAN cars. Toyota is too focused on slashing carbon emissions NOT eliminating them from their vehicle lineup.

Toyota is forcing the slow down in EV sales. Bz4x is leased. Why is that? People want to buy. They are already buying other EVs in Japan such as Tesla. Why lease? This guy’s is projecting his own hangups about this new change in car technology on to others.

The world is changing and he is refusing to let go of the past. Cars are no longer the specialized machines they were of the last century. He just can’t deal with that. They are now becoming more like everyday tech such as smart phones. And just as easy to manufacture. Look at the number of EV vehicle startups in China alone on a yearly basis. ICE cars never enjoyed such numbers of new companies each year.

If carbon neutrality is the goal then this is the logical first step. Hydrogen is good but production is still very expensive and so is the manufacture of fuel cell tech. And hydrogen ICE cars are a downgrade, not an upgrade.

The way he is putting it, he will choose a successor who is aligned with the way he thinks. That will not be a good move for the company.
