Not news. There is always crisis inside GM, Ford and Chrysler (the big 3 American companies in Detroit) … they always need subsidies and bailouts from the American government.

Are you saying that technical excellence doesn’t sell cars? Love of brand is high weightage factor. GM fanbois will buy GM and Toyota fanbois will buy Toyota. French nationals are also fanbois of there local brands.

There are some point that isn’t mentionned in the article, they are crisis inside GM.

Yeah I’am agree with you, eevryone do protect more or less their brands, but France is on another level, also in USA the population isn’t biased for his own brand but here where i’am in France there are biased in them own brand even a lot of french know that a lot of french car reviewer are biased, anyway in USA they look at cars reliability, and usefull, the car must be big to haul a lot of people and lugages with a good size engine.

I did not think about French brands or people. Jazak Allah, I agree, French cars would have become history but for public support. How I wish Pakistanis would go for their home-grown brands, at-least for the products that are as good as foreign made, as French people do.
Moreover, I must reiterate my prior point, American government is a bit biased, they have imposed anti-dumping duties against Toyota and Lexus and other Japanese brands and have even started offering rebates to Tesla buyers. I think I am right in saying that that is bit of careful attitude toward local brand.

I have read my dear and these factors in world of economics are called uncontrollable factors and if the business is managed wisely, it can beat competition by responding to these factors in time. After all that is what the business management is about, is not it? Gain an edge over competition through capitalising from external factors. As for G.M.’s advancement over Toyota, well I suggest that you check reports from U.S.-based car portals, if G.M. were good than Toyota then Forbes, U.S. news or J.D. power or consumer reports would not put Toyota before GM.
I also beg to differ to with you on Toyota brand as a choice due to lack of other options in Pakistan, firstly car imports never got closed, they were open albeit through a difficult process, secondly, K.I.A. is offering Sportage and Hyundai is offering Tuscon and there are reports about other vehicles in the pipeline, so people are not exactly out of alternatives now are they? Therefore, I must say that even after arrival of equally priced and allegedly better equipped Sportage Alpha, if someone is still waiting for six months to get a hand on his Altis 1.6 then it might be love for brand rather than buying it because of lack of options. However, as the world of business is like two sides of a picture, I must appreciate a fact that what you are seeing is also a logical point but it is closed to me because of my limited capacity to think.

Read the article in deep detail and you’ll know that the demand for GM vehicles was still up, however they could not supply to their customers whereas Toyota could; and that is the reason how Toyota surpassed GM, instead of technical excellence, product superiority or brand image. It is the same story as Pakistan, is always a shortage and people tend to buy what is available.

No brother the most cautious are French even know their cars have poor durability and reliability they are still buying it, i think is not about being cautious but to protect them own brand and economy, and me as a lot of my friend we beleive if it wasn’t for that protection the french car brands would not exist anymore.
The fact that toyota beat GM in the USA it speak by itself about how open is the market and how the americans think about the cars.
