The Toyota Yaris sedan in India has managed to outsell Honda City in the very first month of its launch in May 2018. The Yaris was launched at an introductory price of INR 8.7 lac with 7 airbags and ABS with EBD & BA as standard across all trims.
Toyota sold 2,843 units of the Yaris, which is slightly more than the 2,763 units of the Honda City that were sold last month. The instant success of Yaris sedan in India is attributed to huge number of pre-bookings, Toyota brand image, availability of both manual and automatic transmissions, huge list of features and the loaded base variant with 7 airbags & ABS+EBD & BA.
The Yaris in Indian market directly competes against the likes of the Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. While it was able to topple Honda City in terms of sales, it’s still far behind the Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz which sold 3,801 units and 4,024 units respectively.
