As far back as the 1970s, Hydraulic Power Steering was a major bane, causing breakdowns, downtime, leaks and over all pollution. No dozens of extra parts in the engine bay, no additional pulley to wrap the serpentine around. No leaks, no screeching, better fuel economy (EPS motor only turns on when you turn the steering, power pump is always running at full RPM). Now even the designing is easier because motor engines are variable-RPM engines, and any connected loads need to be designed to perform consistently despite the variable input RPM.
