There was a time when Toyota TownAce (article on that please), Estima and Lucida could be seen on the roads. SsangYong Stavic also appeared for a while. Currently only available options are Kia Grand Carnival and Hyundai Grand Starex. There are a few Grand Carnivals on the road but the price is high, engine too big, fuel consumption on the higher side and the vehicle itself is too large to be driven comfortably on our congested and over-encroached roads. Vehicles of this size can simply not enter areas such as Buffer Zone.

BR-V: It has a really congested interior ~ specially the legroom is nil even on the front seat due to the shape of the firewall. While many people would prefer it due to its road presence, deep water fording and high ground clearance, buying a large vehicle in which you can’t even properly stretch your legs is illogical. Vehicle should be small on the outside and spacious inside.

When you mention family of 6 squeezed in a small car, you may also mention the family of 14 squeezed in various torture positions on a motorcycle. This is not because of resale and other blah blah, it is mainly because traffic police does not enforce seat capacity limits and turn a blind eye to this illegal overloading whereas they keep catching commercial vehicles. On the on hand in our culture commercial vehicles are villainized and on the other hand the excesses of “family” and “poor man” are not only tolerated but in fact celebrated because of the continuous narrative and social discourse which glamourizes poverty and “haayyy becharon ki family baRi hai nawwww itni ghareebi mein 50 bachon ko bike pe bitha kar bike pe julm karnay pe majboor hain nawwww”.

I believe this is the very reason that Toyota is the only company that has its vehicles from 70s’ still running around roads, not only in Pakistan but around world as well. So, unless, a truly durable and reasonably priced Toyota made MPVs’ come in our market, I at-least am not trading my sedan for a M.P.V.. Particularly the flashy looking Chinese ones, they are not built to last. While B.R.V. is also out of consideration since because its parts are very expensive and the reviews relating to it are not very confidence inducing either.
Moreover, for us, even small C.U.V. or S.U.V. is out of question since it’s maintenance as compared to sedan is on high side.
