{"id":43732,"date":"2021-10-11T09:42:42","date_gmt":"2021-10-11T09:42:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carspiritpk.com\/?p=43732"},"modified":"2021-10-11T09:42:42","modified_gmt":"2021-10-11T09:42:42","slug":"vehicle-import-hits-all-time-high-in-fy21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carspiritpk.com\/vehicle-import-hits-all-time-high-in-fy21\/","title":{"rendered":"Vehicle Import Hits All-Time High in FY21"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pakistan has witnessed record foreign exchange spending on highest-ever arrival of new automobiles in 2020-21 with 10,513 units of new passenger cars, 4&#215;4, vans, pickups, 2-wheelers and buses in FY21 compared to 1,680 units in FY20, 3,716 units in FY19 and 7,424 units in FY18, according to a report published in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1651167\/new-vehicles-import-hits-all-time-high-in-fy21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Dawn<\/em><\/a>. Excluding buses &amp; 2-wheelers, new cars and 4x4s held the highest share with 10,157 units in FY21 compared to just 893 units in FY20, 2,427 in FY19 and 3,758 units in FY18.<\/p><div class=\"carsp-in-article\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; clear: both; \" id=\"carsp-2076571742\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3921992284533937\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3921992284533937\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"2279435244\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>In overall automobile imports of around $2 billion, the import bill of completely (CKD) and semi-knocked down (SKD) kits for cars, bikes and heavy vehicles stood at record $1.6bn in FY21 as compared to $727m in FY20 while $386m was spent for import of used and new vehicles in FY21 as compared to $219m in FY20. Besides, for the first time, 390 new electric vehicles (EVs) and 19 used EVs were also imported in FY21.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/carspiritpk.com\/fbr-imposes-more-duties-to-discourage-import\/\" rel=\"bookmark\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">FBR Imposes More Duties to Discourage Import<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the first two months of the current financial year (2M-FY22), import of CKD\/SKD kits for local assembly of all vehicles swelled by 214% to $369m from $117m in the same period last fiscal year, while import of CBU vehicles posted a growth of 118% to $103m from $47m in 2M-FY22. Furthermore, the import of used vehicles also swelled to 29,276 units in FY21 from 16,455 units in FY20 though it was 49,990 units in FY19 and 73,640 units in FY18. Plus in addition to newcomers, the existing assemblers have also imported new CBU vehicles in good numbers. But the massive import bill suggests that commercial imports by some specific models have enjoyed an edge. For example, 7,000 units of the MG HS have been delivered to the buyers since November 2020 till date while around 1,000 units are still parked at the port. Another new entrant said industry pundits claimed the highest-ever localization of parts in cars to up to 65%, but in reality no investment had been made towards localization of hi-tech parts, engines, transmissions and electronic control units in the last 30 years.
