Agreed! It would be a miraculous day when fanboys actually realise that there are better options and they are being taken full advantage of by these old-cars sales men.

The EREV version is the best option for Pakistan. This would deal with the range anxiety issue and also help save a lot more fuel than any hybrid solution. Plus, because of the smaller battery in the EREV version, it is under the dreaded, and completely arbitrary, 50kWh battery cap of the EV policy so it will benefit from the lower taxes. Changan must consider this.

This also raises another point. People, especially the old guard of the car assemblers here in Pakistan still keep on saying EVs are very expensive. Judging by the prices, no, they are not.

What really is concerning; why are the Japanese hybrids so expensive? We will be paying an arm and a leg for the locally assembled Toyota corolla cross hybrid. Yet it is clearly known not to be an efficient hybrid. So what will we be paying so much for then? The badge and resale? Is that efficient? Will the badge and resale save me fuel?
And even if we talk about the best Toyota PHEV with the best range, the RAV4 PHEV, it has an EV range of 70KM on a single charge. The RAV4 is a small road going compact SUV. On the other hand the new Tank 500 PHEV from GWM is a full sized off-road SUV just like the Toyota land Cruiser and is the same size with the same capabilities. Yet the pure EV range on the Tank 500 is 100KM. I don’t know, but that seems better doesn’t it?

We can have such good solutions to our fuel problem here in Pakistan but somehow the pricing of the hybrids and the EVs just don’t match up to what they should be. Even old school small cars and budget MPVs are more cost effective in other markets where they are not assembled but simply imported!

This Changan EREV seems a very good choice for our country. Too bad once it goes through the government tax tunnel and over the company profit mountain, it will be relegated to just another play toy for the rich (if ever introduced in Pakistan). Case in point, the MG MG4 and ZS EVs.
