Some time ago it was in the comments that China and Korea get longer cars because the customers there love their legroom. https://carspiritpk.com/new-kia-sportage-becomes-highest-selling-car-in-south-korea/#comment-7779

Bigger cars attract the wrong attention and down the road they are more expensive to repair. Last week at a spare parts shop I saw someone buying the clutch-pressure of Honda City 2007 which was costing Pak Rs. 23500/-. How can someone with above-average salary of 250,000/month even afford it?

About the fuel-efficiency, the 7th gen City on sale in India and Thailand is supposedly offering much better fuel economy. When the City iDSI came around (2002?) it was the most fuel efficient thing. But 20+ years have passed and now the fuel has become so so expensive those accolades don’t matter anymore. Newer lighter body with engines meeting the modern fuel efficiency targets are important.

buyers of sedans are now looking for affordable hatchbacks

I’m a voracious user of rented cars, private bookings and ride-hailing apps. I must say that the new Alto (2019-) is so spacious inside, City and Yaris seem claustrophobic. I can extend my legs without touching the firewall in Alto which is not possible in City and Yaris. This much legroom without compromising any of the backseat passenger’s space! A decade ago this facility was only available in Civic Reborn and even the 2000-2008 or 2008-2014 Corollas didn’t offer this much legroom.

For town-runners who don’t need a trunk to haul a suitcase, the cabin space of Alto is far superior than any of these obsolete designs. Even the Celerio/ new Cultus (2017-) has more cabin space.

Civic: it hits the nostalgic inside us, the but the civic is more and more globally irrelavant in modern context. You can see that it has been discontinued in key markets like Japan, India, while Accord still remains relevant. Same story in Pakistan, people choose D-segment (Sonata) instead of C-segment (Civic).

But don’t worry about declining sales. Atlas (PSX:HCAR) is still making tons of money https://dps.psx.com.pk/company/HCAR so don’t expect them to discontinue operations, introduce new models, reduce prices or offer incentive schemes.
