We don’t know because Geely is really commited to help Proton to rise, recently X 50 was spotted in India, Proton never made any communication about entering Indian market, but they are perparing for it it’s seem.
The first year in Pakistan sure was bad, now the second year has started, i hope Al haj will become better this is the year to catch back, previous year with covid they got an excuse, but this years it seem covid is almost gone, thus no excuses; They got many interesting model for Pakistan, the first they already communicate about it is X50, the second is Iriz, Iriz is an hatchback that i think could sale like hot cakes in Pakistan.

Proton is also available in left hand Market like Egypt, Jordania and even Maritius.
For the History of Proton (not going far in the past) around 2017, Proton was looking for a new Partner they really needed , two brands or group expressed their interest, Geely wich everyone know, the second it was PSA, yes the french group.
But Proton choose Geely over PSA because, PSA waned to make Proton thir low cost brand, when Proton is clearly aiming to rise as to become a good mid-range brand.
Geely only wanted to buy Lotus, not Proton since their own cars were mid-range but the malaysian just told them, eitheir you buy some Proton share with Lotus or is a big No, of course i’am making it simple.
Anyway to say that Proton was nearly coming back in Europe, but changed his strategies, and i don’t think it is bad. They may come Later.

Today for the engines they are a lot of euro 6/5, i don’t think they are cheating with the engine , but it is more about security features like airbags, blind spot warning, line crossing assistance etc..
But in Pakistan we need to face the reality, it is a small market of 250 000 brand new cars, when in Japan for example it 3.5 million , we cannot get what the other have.

In other developed countries they try their utmost best to promote as much growth in their industries as possible.

Here in ultra pro max Pakistan we have so much GROWTH and PROSPERITY in our Auto industry that we have to limit it so we don’t get ahead of ourselves and accidentally conquer the entire world’s auto industry. πŸ™„πŸ˜’

Yes. We can see that in their great policy decisions. The CKD kits do help the economy.

So much so that they had to impose further taxes to stem the growth of the sector. Too much growth is bad also don’t you know… πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€―πŸ€£

A very excellent point!

Its their game and they can do as they please. No accountability. 😀

Don’t worry, our ultra pro max competent government said that CKD kits still make “some revenue” so they are allowed while CBUs are heavily taxed…

Another thing I just noticed, Base model new Civic offered here costs 50.99 lacs. Top model costs upwards of 61 lacs. a 10 lac increase, simply in trim levels and specs. How?? What kind of alien “not manufacturable by Pakistan’s standards” technology are they putting in that trim that makes the car cost a whopping 10 lacs more?

The Pakistani auto industry has become a completely unpredictable hellhole with zero consistency, and in the end only we get to suffer.

Philippines import all their cars, yet they have a much more vibrant, advanced and prosperous car industry than Pakistan. They have enabled their parts vendors and they make a lot of parts for local use and exports. Here we can't even meet local demand. So, again, what is the local assembly good for? Topi drama indeed...]]> Here is another interesting fact… Pakistan Vs. Philippines.

The Kia Stonic is assembled in Pakistan and is now priced at 44.5 lacs for the top of the line model locally.

Almost all cars by all brands are imported (new) in the Philippines. The Kia Stonic is imported in the Philippines. It is priced at 9.55 lacs Philippines Pesos for the top of the line model there which translates to 32.62 lacs PKR.

That means the cost of import, taxes and company profits are all part of the 32.62 lac PKR price of the Stonic in Philippines.

So the imported Stonic in Philippines is cheaper…

Then what good is local assembly for? Why make such a big fuss over it and make such a big deal about local assembly? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€”

We will likely see Geely launch here soon, since Al Haj has already managed to blow holes in their ship without even firing a single bullet. Such a huge patriotic response given to a company who in return has given such terrible service. I don’t think Proton will stay afloat for long thanks to Al Haj now, which means Geely has an easier route if they want to sell and operate in Pakistan, given that they do it correctly. And even if Proton manages to stay afloat despite all this, Geely can still operate and sell their vehicles since they’re gonna partner with another venture anyway. If Chery QQ and Chevy Exclusive can both sell at the same time in Pakistan why not x70 and Boyue…
