One thing that one of the people in the video says rings very true even today. One of the reason that the car industry shunned the airbag was that it potentially gave the (correct) impression that cars were not as safe as the car manufacturers wanted to make the people believe. In Pakistan Mehroo, Boloo and Ravina, with no safety standards in frame construction or any other type of safety system and with seatbelts that were added much later at the complaint of customers which stop working very quickly and are unsafe; These companies still call these the cars of the people…

That propaganda rhetoric has worked wonders in our market unfortunately. For example, we have a person in our comment section who was shown a picture of a carry dabba with the cabin almost completely crushed. He argued that it was safe safer than an three wheeler cargo carrier just because it “did not tip over”. The roof had been crushed into the passenger area and yet this person saw that as a win!. Brainwashing at its finest!

When airbags were proposed in the US, the car company heads went to the US president and bitched and moaned until he removed mandatory airbag addition. Sound familiar?

It was only through the persistence of honest, level headed and sane legislators who, through actual demonstration, proved the safety benefits of airbags; which were then added much to the chagrin of the auto manufacturers. And now, those same auto manufacturers, who advocated against airbags, are blowing their own horns as “safety experts”. And yet when it comes to adding airbags due to a government requirement in india, they are resisting again stating profit and sales concerns. These guys can write the book on hypocrisy!

Also, adding 4 (FOUR) air bags will drive up the cost by 17000 INR which is around 40000 PKR??!!!

Where the heck do our local ASS-emblers get their air bags from? for them adding airbags, even just one or two, will raise the costs of cars by lacs!!!. Our government seriously needs to wake the hell up! All these local car companies need serious rules to govern them and monitor them.
